Bringing Back the History

Walt Whitney, Master Builder, has managed many historic renovation and adaptive re-use projects over the years. The current project shown above involves the total restoration of an 1860's brick manufacturing building and its conversion to residential use. The first challenge was to qualify and remediate environmental and structural concerns. Once these were addressed, the concrete floors were cored to house a stair tower and elevator. Moving forward, we restored the original surfaces; removing paint and sand blasting wood. Then  cleaned, repaired and re-pointed the brick. The design and placement of mechanical systems and lighting to minimize their visual and auditory intrusion into the original structure has been undertaken with sensitivity. A two-story central clerestory, ground floor garage and guest apartment along with a roof garden add to the striking beauty and graceful living style of this restoration.
